*Maybe not everyone's first (or even second) choice off this album, but it is absolutely beautiful. *Song that opened my eyes to post-rock as a genre.* /u/Dar_of_Emur The video is a perfect match for the emotions conveyed in the music, but even on its own it's Sigur Rós doing what they do best. Though this song is by a post-rock group, this might not be one that you associate with the genre. u/drijįirst time I heard this song, the chorus brought tears into my eyes. u/lowlvlowlĪfter not really "getting" Sigur Rós in the early 00s, this darkly beautiful standout track from their debut album is what finally made me fall in love with the band when it was reissued a few years later. The piano arrangement is wonderful and Jonsi's vocals portray a sense of victory at the costs of one's innocence. The eerie siren call at the beginning of the track makes it hard to steer clear of this one. Do I need a better reason? /u/voynich61Įasily my favorite Sigur Ros song. It will bring you to your breaking point and press further onward. My best friend described the conclusion of this song as every emotion at the same time. I don't know of anything else quite like it /u/Jellyfrank One of the most strongly emotional musical experiences I've had. Ára bátur - Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (2008) Makes me feel happy and sad at the same time and not many songs have that effect on me. One of the most emotional songs from this album, and it's absolutely beautiful. Viðrar vel til loftárása - Ágætis byrjun (1999) I think it was the first song I heard of them, and it has stuck with me for some years. Although this track does not express too much of Sigur Ròs' vast soundscape, I think it serves well as one of their most versatile tracks as well as one of their greatest accomplishments. This 10+ minute piece is so ambiguous sometimes it creates a depressing mood, sometimes it cheers me up, other times it feels like pure bliss, it's very intense at high volumes, it fills the air at low volumes. The song is best listened to with the brief intro track to the album Ágætis Byrjun. The atmosphere and feeling behind this track is so moving. This is one of my all-time favorite tracks, not just from Sigur Ros. As an aside, I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure this song was the first song they released that was in Hopelandic. Maybe not everyone's first (or even second) choice off this album, but it is absolutely beautiful. Song that opened my eyes to post-rock as a genre.
